USS Mississippi (Langton 1/1200)

USS Mississippi was the first Sidewheel Steam Frigate built in the U.S., and was also a navigation warship of the beginning of the U.S. Navy.

It completes in the Philadelphia naval arsenal on December 22, 1841, and is known also as one in the "KURO-FUNE" by which it came to Japan.Generally, although the "KURO-FUNE(Black Ship)" tends to be considered to have been an iron ship, since the paint of a tar was applied by wooden in fact, they looked black. This time, it is painting by the color of a gray applied into the Civil War.
Although it was in the state which removed all tops of the mast for the river going-up strategy of the Mississippi, the photograph of USS Mississippi of the existing Civil War age was made this time, while it had been graceful.
Although the ship of this class had USS Missouri in others, while anchoring to Gibraltar, as for USS Missouri, the sailor's careless accident was burned down by the maiden voyage by the basis.
Therefore, only this warship has participated in the Civil War.
Although the steamship of late was still equipped with the sail, it was because it is that had little loading of coal fuel and an object for the cruise at the time of an organization breaking down.
When it came out to the open sea, the steam engine stopped and actually performed the sailing cruise mainly.
However, when in the case of the Sidewheel steamer the driving shaft of an engine and an imported car was removed and it was not made free rotation, a sailing cruise was not completed, but when it was USS Mississippi, the work was started in about 2 hours.
Moreover, in order to return, it is being described in the diary of Perry that it took the double time.
Incidentally, it could be said that there was still a difference of technical capabilities clearly, since it is a thing that the work is ended in 2 to 3 minutes in the case of the outer Sidewheel steamer type warship in Britain.
